River Process and Pattern

#Channel_Pattern

The three most important factors controlling a stream channel
are the #gradient, #discharge, and #load. The three factors are interrelated. For example, if the gradient of a stream becomes steeper along a particular stretch of channel, the velocity of flow is likely to increase as well. If the velocity is high, a greater load can be carried.

#gradient The steepness of a stream channel.
#discharge The amount of water passing by a point on a channel's bank during a unit of time.
#load The suspended and dissolved sediment carried by a
stream.
