Scientist in optical remote sensing of vegetation Forschungszentrum Jülich The Plant Sciences Subinstitute of the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences (IBG) investigates the dynamics of plant processes and the interaction of plants with the environment. Plant science at Forschungszentrum Jülich plays a leading role at national and international level in the field of plant phenotyping, i.e. in the quantitative and non-invasive recording of structural and functional properties of plants important for agricultural and horticultural plant breeding. In this context, we are developing new sensors and measurement concepts and integrate them into semi- and fully automated systems. One focus of the subinstitute is the use of optical sensors to promote the automated measurement of plant traits under field conditions. Ground-based measurements are complemented by UAV, aircraft and satellite-based remote sensing approaches. Particular focus is on the development of novel non-invasive measurement appr...

Filtering in Remote Sensing. Convolution. Edge enhancement. Low pass filter and High-pass filter

Filtering in Remote Sensing. Convolution. Edge enhancement. Low pass filter and High-pass filter Spatial filtering is a technique used in remote sensing to enhance the spatial resolution of an image. This is typically done by using a mathematical algorithm to process the raw data collected by the remote sensing instrument, with the goal of reducing noise and improving the overall quality of the image. Spatial frequency in remote sensing refers to the density of spatial details or features in an image. It is a measure of how quickly the intensity or brightness of an image changes over a given distance. High spatial frequency indicates a high density of fine details or edges in an image, while low spatial frequency indicates a low density of fine details or edges. Spatial frequency is an important concept in remote sensing because it can affect the ability to detect and interpret features in an image. It can also be used to evaluate the quality and usefulness of an image for certain type...

PHD STUDENT POSITION ON ANTARCTIC VEGETATION ECOLOGY AND REMOTE SENSING Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam https://werkenbij.vu.nl/ad/phd-student-position-on-antarctic-vegetation-ecology-and-remote-sensing/uhnned/en 4 research positions (2 PhDs and 2 postdocs) will be available at the Department of Ecological Science, for the research project entitled "The Antarctic biota count (ABC): a functional trait-based approach to scale biodiversity from plot to region'', funded by the Netherlands Polar Program (NWO). Locatie: AMSTERDAM FTE: 1 JOB DESCRIPTION The aim of this work package is to quantify the cover of dominant cryptogam groups along the Antarctic Peninsula region. A central question within this package is: 'How much vegetation cover is there along the Antarctic Peninsula?' By linking surveys of vegetation type and cover to remote sensing methods we aim to scale plot measurements to the entire Antarctic Peninsula region. To unravel the mechanism behind species specifi...
